Bingo is a form of lottery with the game being played by the random selection of numbers by drawing a ball through the tube in the bingo machine. Both games use a bingo kind of machine that mixes the balls with the numbers on them and allows for the random selection of the numbers. Equally weighted balls mean no ball is lighter than any other ball. This means that every ball has the same opportunity of being selected as does every other ball. No one ball is favored so the selection of each bingo ball is an independent random event without any method of predicting the outcome.
In both bingo and the lottery, players win by pure luck and chance, not by any game playing skill or strategy. With bingo, the player covers the numbers as they are called by the bingo caller. If he makes the required pattern, he wins; if not, he loses.
Bingo can trace its humble beginning back to the Italian national lottery in the sixteen hundreds. The game became very popular and spread across the continent and eventually came to the United States where the game was restructured into a seventy-five number version played on a five number by five number grids.
The British version is a ninety number version played on a nine column by three line ticket with five numbers on each line. Like the casino lottery, the winner is determined by a random selection process without the use of any playing skill. Any like the lottery, the game of bingo is very popular. |
